Searching Sanpete County Criminal Dockets
Utah Courts Xchange is the public gateway to case information. It covers District and Justice Court records held in CORIS. Get the venue right first. A felony or Class A misdemeanor file sits in Sixth District Court. Class B or C misdemeanors sit in a county or municipal justice court instead. Most infractions go there too. Xchange charges per search, plus a separate fee for documents. Free public terminals at a courthouse or the Utah State Law Library can spare you the cost.
- Copy the court, case or citation number, and dates from the originating paper.
- Select District, Justice, or both jurisdictions in Xchange.
- Narrow the scope to Sanpete County and the named Manti or city court.
- Search by case number, or use name, case type, and a date range.
- Match the court, type, number, filing date, and party role before opening history.
When the online docket search comes up empty, a phone call works. Sixth District records staff take calls at 435-264-5011, and email reaches them at 6thsanpetedocs@utcourts.gov. For a city-level matter, dial the Sanpete County Justice Court at 435-835-2103. Or call the city court where the case belongs. Older files or specific documents usually need paperwork instead. A written Utah court-record request is the way to go.
Sanpete Criminal Search Controls
Xchange's own help notes give you several levers for narrowing a criminal search. Filter by county, court, case type, and date mode. Those four filters matter because citation numbers are not unique statewide. Common names can pull unrelated records into the results. One quirk to expect: a violation date can precede the filing date.
| Control | Use | Caution |
|---|---|---|
| Jurisdiction | District or Justice | Choose both only if unsure |
| Case number | Known file | Confirm court location |
| Name | Spelling variants | Narrow before paying |
| Case type | FS, MD, MO, IF | Code is not an outcome |
| Date | Filing or disposition | Not the violation date |
For the fine points of wildcard searching and what each result field means, read the official Xchange field instructions. Even so, a surname on its own proves nothing. Confirming a Sanpete County criminal docket takes more than a matching last name.
Inside a Sanpete County Criminal Docket
A docket is a dated paper trail, step by step. The case header comes first. Charge descriptions and levels follow, along with the current judge, parties and attorneys, the prosecuting and law-enforcement agencies, citation details, hearings, judgments, documents, and accounting. Each entry is procedural. Pleas and dispositions show up as their own separate lines. They are not folded into other events in the record.
| Case type | FS felony, MD DUI misdemeanor, MO other misdemeanor, or IF infraction |
|---|---|
| Charge | An accusation, not proof or judgment |
| Proceedings | Dated filings, hearings, orders, and transfers |
| Plea/result | Distinct entries read in date order |
| Accounting | Fine, fee, payment, and balance data where applicable |
A paid PDF link on a Sanpete County docket is not the same thing as a certified copy. Papers that are absent may be old, restricted, or simply not part of the electronic rollout yet.
Sanpete Charge and Judgment Codes
Utah codes draw a line between the charge and the judgment, and that line matters for anyone reading a Sanpete County criminal docket. The charge code tells you what was alleged. A result code records only the procedural outcome. For the full story, read the dated entry together with the public order.
- G, GB, GJ, GP
- Guilty outcomes, including bench, jury, or plea forms.
- NB, NJ, NC
- Not guilty after bench or jury trial, or a no-contest plea.
- PA, PB, DV
- Plea in abeyance forms or diversion.
- D, DI, DS, DW
- Dismissal variants.
- BO, AP, RM
- Bound over, appealed, or remanded.
- XA, XP, XN
- Expungement or exoneration entries.
The official Utah code list gives the complete inventory, and it treats dismissed, expunged, and not found as distinct outcomes, not synonyms.
How a Criminal Case Moves
A Sanpete County criminal case unfolds as a timeline rather than a single snapshot. A filing comes first. Arraignment, motions, and status settings may follow. A plea or trial, disposition, and sentencing come after that. A justice court matter can be bound over or appealed to District Court. Every stage can add several entries to the docket.
Case history flow: Filing › Arraignment › Pretrial › Plea or Trial › Disposition › Sentencing
A setting can be continued or reset. Always read the newest docket event first, then check it against the Sanpete County court dates. A short-range calendar covers only what is coming up, not the full case history.
Sanpete Courts by Offense Level
No single office serves as the Sanpete criminal clerk. Sixth District Court holds the felony and Class A records, while Sanpete County Justice Court keeps its own lower-level matters and the municipal clerks keep city cases.
| Venue | Lane | Contact |
|---|---|---|
| Sixth District, Manti | Felony, Class A | 80 N. Main; 435-264-5011 |
| County Justice Court | Most Class B/C, infractions | 160 N. Main #301; 435-835-2103 |
| Municipal court | City ordinance and local cases | Use the city on the citation |
The official Sanpete Sixth District page lists the Manti contact and a records email. Juvenile Court shares that published site, though its privacy rules are separate.
Courts That Hold Criminal Dockets
The state trial court hears the most serious Sanpete County cases. Justice courts take the lower offense levels that law assigns to them. A municipal citation is not interchangeable with a county justice case. Even so, both can show up under Xchange's Justice jurisdiction.
Juvenile delinquency stays out of the ordinary public Xchange. Federal criminal cases also leave the state system and run through PACER. When routing a docket search goes wrong, the court name on the original paper usually settles it.
Sanpete sits in a rural six-county district. Judges and staff cover a wide area. So a judge's name alone cannot confirm the venue. Match both the county and the location.
Sanpete Criminal Access Images
The Utah courthouse-access page shows the free public-terminal route behind paid online access.

Use this route when Xchange cost or a missing document blocks a remote search. The record-request instructions show the written fallback.

A records request has to name the court and the case with enough detail for the clerk to act on it. The hearing recording page spells out how Sanpete submissions are routed.

A recording request differs from a request for a written transcript.
Sanpete Criminal Outcome Context
Official historical data describes workload, never a person. The FY2018 Utah justice-court report counted 189 criminal filings in Sanpete County Justice Court. Its city entries counted 130 in Ephraim. It listed 67 in Mount Pleasant, 51 in Manti, 34 in Gunnison, and 17 in Moroni. Those are dated filing counts. They are not current caseloads and say nothing about any defendant. They also explain why county and municipal dockets must never be merged into one search result. The Census incorporated-place table adds separate population context for Sanpete communities.

Population rank tells you nothing about a case result. Court volume is a separate matter entirely. Utah figures a clearance rate by dividing dispositions by filings. That number can show whether a court's inventory is growing or shrinking, and nothing more. It cannot speak to guilt, fairness, or how fast one Sanpete County criminal docket moves. The District of Utah CM/ECF page covers the separate federal layer for a docket search.

Federal cases never appear in Utah Xchange. That stays true even when a party has a Sanpete connection. PACER runs on its own account, case-number, docket, and document system. Work through the court system and the venue before concluding anything, because an empty state result does not prove that no public federal case exists.
Sealed Dockets and Public Access
Utah starts from open access. Some records are then classified as private or sealed. A criminal case involving a minor can be private, and sealed, expunged, or juvenile matters stay out of the normal public docket search. A blank result may therefore reflect a search mismatch, old coverage, or a lawful restriction.
Utah access rules:
UCJA Rule 4-202.02 classifies records.
UCJA Rule 4-202.03 identifies who may access each class.
UCJA Rule 4-205 governs sealed and expunged handling.
The official classification page illustrates the current public, private, and sealed framework.

The access rule names authorized users, since classification, not search skill, controls what the public may see.

Private or sealed access requires a qualifying basis or a court order, and the written-request rule sets out the formal process.

Repeated online searches cannot replace a proper request.
Sanpete Payment Record Limits
Payments and outcomes are two different things. The Utah ePayments page shows how a case or citation number routes a payment.

A balance or a payment never explains the judgment by itself. The traffic case page separates citation procedure from the broader case history a docket can hold.

Traffic codes and criminal codes use related but separate case lanes. The deferred traffic page explains DTP and other response options.

A deferred path must be read with its own dated order and conditions.
